Back in June, it was announced that a recent group project I was involved in had been awarded a commendation in the YCN Student Awards 2015. We were invited to the ceremony held at the Barbican Centre in the heart of London to receive our awards.

After a few words from YCN founder Nick Defty, special guest presenters Luke Stephenson, Kirsty Carter, Katie Scott, and Michael Wolff were each invited on stage to share a few words of insight. Each guest introduced the commended winners for each brief and, a change to the YCN’s previous award format, announced an overall winner for each brief.

Our group were declared the overall winner for The Idle Man brief, meaning that we also received an additional prize – one of the wooden YCN bars, created by designer Tom Forsyth.

After the ceremony, everyone mingled in the exhibition space and the conservatory. Here, we could see artwork from all the commended entrants and meet our fellow winners.

It was a truly fantastic evening and I am so thankful for the award. The Barbican Centre was a beautiful venue for the ceremony and the conservatory upstairs was the perfect place for meeting and showing work.

Our work will also be featured in the next issue of the YCN Student Awards annual, to be published in Autumn 2015.

Here you can find the full list of the commended students in the YCN Student Awards 2015. The YCN photographed the glamourous event and I would like to offer special thanks for allowing me to use their images. You can find their article and a selection of images from the evening here.
