I am proud to announce that my documentary “On the Rails” won the the Craft Skills: Camera Work (Factual) award at the 2017 Royal Television Society Student Awards for Devon & Cornwall.
A portrait of the members of the Plymouth & South East Cornwall Model Railway Club, “On the Rails” is a touching look at the men who build the tracks in a nostalgic trip through the model railway community. The project was completed solely by myself, as part of my final major project at Plymouth University.
The Awards Evening
Held at the iconic Duke of Cornwall Hotel, the awards evening celebrated the best films from students at institutions across the region in a range of categories. “On the Rails” was shortlisted for the Factual category, and while it did not win overall for the category, it beat out strong competition to be awarded the Craft Skills award for the best Camera Work.
It was a fantastic evening – I enjoyed meeting my fellow award-winners and judges, all of whom had kind words and comments about “On the Rails”. Inspired by the success of the evening, “On the Rails” is now being entered into festivals worldwide and will be available to view online soon after.
I’d like to thank all of those involved in organising the event. Having the opportunity to meet industry professionals and like-minded creators was fantastic and I would particularly like to thank the judges whose kind words and inspiring comments have given me increased confidence in my skills as a filmmaker.
